Welcome to Read it Again: a Short Story Class for BIPOC Writers
Class Registration is open from Oct. 7 - Oct. 21 and closes Thursday 10/21 at 11:59pm
Read it Again is a 6-week creative writing class designed for BIPOC writers in Baltimore, with special emphasis on what our organizer calls ‘countering the white-L in Hampden.’ During our time together we’ll create a new, original short story through in-class Writing Labs, engaging in critical and playful discussions on short story excerpts by BIPOC writers, and sharing nuanced, individualized feedback to each other on our stories, all while we nibble on pastries baked at our home venue, Common Ground.
Why Countering the White-L is Important:
Baltimore’s racial segregation disproportionately impacts its predominantly Black population in that only the white L is walkable and well-resourced with community events, venues, and multiple modes of public transportation. We do our part to counter the white L with direct, targeted outreach to the BIPOC people of Hampden and Baltimore City, and by centering BIPOC writers in all materials used for the class.
Call to Register:
This class is a grassroots, one-woman organized effort, and this doll teaching artist is counting on your support (register now or on this coming payday) to make it happen! -Taiwana
